The underlying philosophy of Alternative holistic health is that the practitioner uses methods of diagnosis and treatment that respect the physical body while taking into account the ‘whole person’, including mental, emotional and spiritual components. All forms of natural, complimentary or integrated medicine generally adhere to this philosophy.

Alternative Health Practitioners understand that the body, mind and spirit connect in complex ways. Grounded in a variety of theoretical perspectives, Alternative Holistic Health Practitioners share a broad view of health and wellness that addresses the multidimensionality of human beings. As a result, in treatment, the holistic health practitioner may combine massage therapy, nutritional counseling, herbs, reflexology, acupressure, yoga, Traditional Chinese Medicine, polarity, breath work, or more while working with a client. Some practitioners choose to emphasize the bodywork aspect of the profession while others choose to function as counselors or teachers.

As a Holistic Health Practitioner, you must be caring, compassionate, honest, and  well trained. You need to take responsibility for your own health status and constantly continue to learn.  Holistic Health is a career that responds to people as unique, whole individuals. With a strong sense of empathy and ethics, Holistic Health Practitioners can develop an intuitive understanding of the complex harmony of body/mind/spirit.

For many specialties, such as acupuncture and massage therapy, most states require their practitioners to be certified. It is very important to be trained in holistic health theory and practice.

We are delighted with our increasing ability to strengthen the Alternative Health community with knowledgeable and experienced assistants, providers and educators.

Personal and professional development takes a lot of time and work; creating vehicles to help teach and serve others how to achieve these goals takes even more! We are proud of the accredited programs that we offer at the Institute.

Training in Alternative Health modalities is growing by leaps and bounds as the greater community opens its mind and heart to alternative healing options, philosophies and healthy lifestyles.  There really is hope for the greater good of all!

Tuition has not gone up this year due to exemplary stewardship by our outstanding Board of Directors.  Through the Boards creative and generous leadership, we are now able to offer scholarships and grants to some new students. Every month our programs show continued signs of flourishing.  Our podcast programming is developing on track.  Our work study program is being used by many students successfully to pay for their education and continue to earn money after they graduate.

A note about new policy:  The Institute now requires supporting identification documents to be included with the application for all applicants by January 1, 2008. Our privacy policy remains the same- any information shared by a student with the Institute is kept in strict confidence unless released in prior writing by the student or their parent or guardian.

We realize that our Institute is not for everyone. We do know that those who do decide to become students will experience a fulfilling and rewarding journey that can last a lifetime.  We greatly admire those who are able to apply themselves to the task of completing these programs without constant personal attention and supervision.  The personal integrity and disciplined fortitude that our program completion demonstrates is an example of true adult maturity and trustworthiness that is deserving of genuine respect.
